The Guardian Reveals Slave labor in Thailand’s Seafood Industry

Today, The Guardian published a story and film documenting the use of slave labor in Thailand’s seafood industry. According to the six-month investigation, an alarming number of men are held against their will on Thai fishing boats used in the production of prawns sold by major United States, British and European retailers.

“Rights groups have long pointed to Thailand’s massive labor shortage in its fishing sector, which—along with an increased demand from the United States and Europe for cheap prawns—has driven the need for cheap labor,” states the article.
