Sharla Ferguson

Director, Public Engagement

Sharla joined Humanity United in 2013 and is currently the Director of Strategic Communications within the Public Engagement portfolio.

Sharla leads in defining the vision, strategy, and direction for Communications at HU, including implementing communications strategies that increase the reach of HU and its partners and expand opportunities for thought leadership. She proactively positions the Strategic Communications team to ensure it is an integral part of HU’s programmatic work and partner support and that it is best able to support the organization’s mission.

Prior to joining HU, she worked for a small international non-profit on community outreach and provided mentorship and leadership training to university students.

Sharla holds bachelor’s degrees in global and international studies and religious studies, with a focus on the Middle East, from the University of California in Santa Barbara. She also holds a master’s degree in global leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary, where she focused her studies on peacemaking and intercultural leadership.
