I am pleased to announce a new endeavor for Humanity United. Over the next three years, HU will help to expand the space for civil conversations here in the U.S. by supporting the growth of the social enterprise, On Being with Krista Tippett.
On Being is at its core a syndicated public radio show and podcast. Increasingly, it is also a platform for some of the most informed, empathetic, and civil conversations happening in our country. Over the past year, On Being’s podcast has grown rapidly as individuals across all influences and ideologies seek to make sense of the era in which we live. On Being focuses on what brings people together around the search for purposeful life, relationships, and communities.
At Humanity United, we’ve seen first-hand the horrific impacts of deep-rooted polarization in places like DRC, Sudan, South Sudan, and Liberia, and the generational work of reconciliation and healing that it takes to overcome this trauma to society. Unfortunately, we are all experiencing a society caught in the throes of polarization right here at home. The divisions along racial, political, religious, and socioeconomic lines in this country are very real, and unfortunately deepening.
This new partnership with On Being aligns with HU’s founding belief in the inherent value of human dignity and reinforces our commitment to create space for dialogue in settings of deep-rooted polarization around the world. In many ways, this is a domestic adaptation of our peacebuilding work and will amplify voices of social courage and healing in the U.S.
While Humanity United will remain focused on international work, we are excited to see where this initiative takes us and what we can learn from it.
