Since 2013, Humanity United has worked alongside several committed industry and civil society partners to explore ways for the engineering and construction industry to address worker rights challenges within their projects and supply chains, particularly in the Middle East.
We are pleased to announce the release of the study, “Addressing Workers’ Rights in the Engineering and Construction Sector – Opportunities for Collaboration.” This report by Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) in partnership with Humanity United and CH2M, a Colorado-based global engineering and project management firm, recommends ways for the engineering and construction industry to join forces to tackle some of the most entrenched challenges facing them.
BSR spoke to numerous construction, engineering and project management firms, as well as major clients, and civil society groups. The report highlights the appetite within the engineering and construction sector to work together, as well as companies’ desire to tackle meaningful challenges, including foreign labor recruitment of migrant construction workers, living and working conditions, and supply chain management.
The study is the first step in building a robust, industry-driven initiative to address workers’ rights in this sector.
