Joint NGO Statement on the Conflict in South Sudan

September 25, 2014 (Washington, DC) – Today, Humanity United joined the Enough Project, Oxfam International, and 15 other NGOs and advocacy groups in issuing a call for international pressure to be leveraged against the warring factions of South Sudan who are standing in the way of peace:

As the humanitarian toll of South Sudan’s nine-month civil war mounts, it is clear that member states attending today’s UNGA side event cannot positively influence outcomes in South Sudan without significantly enhancing their leverage over the warring parties. Achieving a permanent cessation of hostilities, a meaningful peace agreement, and unimpeded humanitarian access will be impossible so long as South Sudanese leaders disregard the suffering of their own people. More strategic international pressure on the leadership is critical to bring about lasting peace for the people of South Sudan.
