HU Statement on the Situation in El Fasher, Sudan

HU addresses the recent increase in violence in El Fasher, Sudan and the ongoing armed conflict within the region.

Humanity United deplores the unconscionable violence we are witnessing in Sudan. Over the last week, we have seen reports of mass killings and atrocities taking place in El Fasher, in Sudan’s Darfur region, since the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took over the city on Sunday, October 26th, 2025. It is estimated that more than 2000 unarmed civilians have been brutally killed in ethnically motivated attacks, and an estimated 26,000 people have fled in recent days. Amid this escalating violence, Humanity United calls for a cessation of hostilities, humanitarian access, and immediate action to protect civilians in El Fasher and across the region.

This is the latest escalation in a civil war between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since April 2023. Since the start of the conflict, more than 150,000 people have been killed, 14 million people have been displaced, and 24 million people remain food insecure, making it the largest displacement and humanitarian crisis in the world. In El Fasher, after 18 months of an RSF siege cutting off food and vital supplies, about 260,000 civilians remain trapped, hungry and vulnerable. About half of these are children.

Video, photographic, and satellite imagery show evidence of RSF-led summary executions, torture, detentions, widespread sexual violence against women and girls, and mass killings at a devastating scale. Continued documentation of these atrocities is critical for future efforts to bring perpetrators to justice. However, despite early warning and evidence of an ongoing genocide, including through satellite imagery and remote sensing data from the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab, the conflict continues uninterrupted.

The U.S. Congress and Trump Administration must condemn the actions of the perpetrators and help facilitate the protection of civilians in El Fasher and throughout Sudan. An immediate cessation of hostilities is needed now. The U.S. Government should also directly engage the United Arab Emirates, who is providing well-documented support to RSF fighters, and urge respect of the arms embargo in Darfur. Finally, we urge U.S. and other international leaders to prioritize the provision of life-saving assistance to respond to the devastating humanitarian crisis, including support for and protection of local volunteers.

As we have done since our organization’s founding, Humanity United will stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan, our partners, and the Sudanese diaspora community.
