Kim Tyler Joins Humanity United as Chief Financial Officer

Humanity United welcomes Kim Tyler as our new Chief Financial Officer.

We are pleased to announce that Kim Tyler has joined Humanity United as our new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as of January 10. In this role, Kim will manage HU’s finance team and contribute to the implementation of our organizational strategy and goals. Kim replaces Kevin Luu who announced his departure last year after 15 years at Humanity United. Kevin will be staying on through the end of the month to work with Kim through this transition and we are immensely grateful to him for his guidance and commitment over the years.

“I am thrilled to welcome such a skilled financial leader and strategic thinker to our organization,” said Sandy Nathan, Managing Director of Operations. “Kim’s work has demonstrated her ability to be an effective CFO in nonprofits, government, and philanthropy. After an extensive search, we’re excited to have Kim oversee our finances, lead a dynamic and committed team, and serve as a trusted partner across HU so that we can continue to achieve our mission.”

Kim has an established career in accounting, financial management, and operations with experiences across a variety of industries, most recently as the Chief Financial Officer with the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. Prior to that role, Kim served at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago as the Assistant Vice President of Finance with the Customer Relations and Support Office. Kim has held senior financial leadership positions across other nonprofit organizations and in the corporate space, most notably at Kraft Foods and AT&T.

Kim has a legacy of service that extends beyond her professional accomplishments, including serving on the faculty of Prairie State College as an adjunct Professor of Accounting. While she is often sought after to provide financial guidance and insights to small nonprofits and business owners with limited financial resources, Kim also has a distinguished body of civic engagement. She previously held board member roles with the Illinois Association for Infant Mental Health as well as the Village of Frankfort Finance Committee. Currently, she serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for both Forefront and Planning Implementation Evaluation (PIE.org).

Serving in the role of Chief Finance Officer, Kim will lead all fiscal matters related to Humanity United’s portfolio of Foundations. She will be a key member of HU’s Leadership Team, reporting to the Managing Director of Operations.

“Humanity United has a longstanding history of compassion, action, and service to mankind across the globe,” Kim said. “I, too, share an affinity to achieve meaningful and sustaining impact to human dignity. I am humbled and beyond excited to join the HU community as a continuation of my deep-rooted desire to leave a proverbial mark of impact where I can for the betterment of all.”

We are excited to have Kim join the team and welcome the expertise, experience, and leadership she brings.
