To this end, we are happy to announce that Lisa Carpenter has joined HU’s executive team this month as Head of Strategy, Learning and Impact. In this role, Lisa will work across the organization, using systems thinking to inform our strategies and drive impact. She will be working closely with HU’s programmatic, investment and policy teams with a specific focus on strategy development, and learning and impact models.
Before joining HU, Lisa was the Senior Director of Strategy and Operations in Global Sustainability for Gap Inc. While at the Gap, Lisa was focused on driving sustainable business practices into the company’s core business strategy. This included designing new approaches to improving working conditions in the company’s supply chain and developing strategies to improve enterprise-wide environmental outcomes.
During her almost 10 years at the company she held a variety of leadership roles, including overseeing the company’s Global Partnerships function (responsible for partnering with NGOs, trade unions, governments, multi-stakeholder initiatives and other organizations); building a data insights team and the capability to better measure programmatic impacts on human rights and environmental issues; and overseeing the company’s public reporting on key sustainability issues and outcomes.
Prior to joining the Gap, Lisa worked at the Boston Consulting Group in San Francisco advising clients in a variety of sectors on strategic opportunities, including; new market entry, mergers and acquisitions, global public health and sustainable corporate business practices.
Earlier in her career Lisa worked at Cambridge Associates where she conducted investment analysis for nonprofit clients. She also lived and worked for two years in Niger, West Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Lisa holds her M.B.A. from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and her M.A. from Colby College.
