HU’s President and CEO Randy Newcomb Embarks on a New Role with The Omidyar Group

February 22, 2019 – Humanity United’s founding President and CEO Randy Newcomb shared his decision today to accept a new role as Senior Advisor to The Omidyar Group, a diverse collection of companies, organizations, and initiatives – including Humanity United – that strive to catalyze social impact globally.

In this role, Randy will support The Omidyar Group by exploring diverse perspectives, future trends, and emergent solutions to address the complex challenges facing our world in the 21st century.

“I remain as enthusiastic about Humanity United’s future as I was 15 years ago,” Randy told HU staff today. “In this new role at The Omidyar Group, I am excited to build on my service to the individuals and organizations striving to foster greater empowerment and flourishing for people throughout the world.”

As President and CEO of Humanity United, Randy was instrumental in founding and steering the organization for its first 15 years. Working closely with the Omidyar family – and with a shared vision of a world with enduring peace and universal freedom – Randy grew HU as a values-based organization dedicated to cultivating the conditions necessary to address intractable problems like violent conflict, atrocities, human exploitation, and modern slavery.

During his tenure, Humanity United’s work extended throughout the world, with programs in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Liberia, Nepal, Malaysia, Mali, South Sudan, Sudan, and Thailand. Under Randy’s direction, HU has fostered relationships and collaborated closely with a network of individuals and organizations – at global, regional, national and local levels – to bring greater levels of dialogue, understanding, action, and new solutions to address the complex systemic problems that are the organization’s focus.

“I am deeply grateful to Randy for his service and commitment to those whose lives he has worked to improve around the world, and to the people within Humanity United, whom he has led with purpose and dedication these past 15 years,” said Pam Omidyar. “I know this wisdom and experience will be invaluable as he continues to serve in a new role with The Omidyar Group.”

“Humanity United’s work is far from complete,” continued Pam. “We remain focused on our work, the path of service, and uplifting humanity together in the years ahead.”

Humanity United’s Board of Trustees will begin a search for a Managing Partner to lead the organization in the continuation of its work. In the interim period, HU will be led by an internal team of senior leaders.
