Thriving Communities

In addition to our commitment to resource organizations building power, we  believe that it is critical to resource practices and opportunities to shape transformative, restorative, and healing justice infrastructure across the racial justice movement. RJE is deeply committed to building and nourishing relationships with organizers and communities impacted by intersecting issues of repression. We recognize the dynamics between philanthropy and grantee recipients and approach this work with lived experience and enduring solidarity. RJE invests in wellbeing as an anchor to our work for the sake of authentic, right relationship, and a posture of care beyond the grant dollar. As a team, we commit to the People at the frontline, and resource movements that prioritize sustained wellness, joy, resilience, and unity across the racial justice ecosystem. This is done with the intention to imagine possibility beyond oppression in building a new world; how we shift from survival to thriving, and from trauma to empowerment.

For RJE, resourcing organizations cultivating thriving communities looks like (but is not limited to):

  • Divestment of resources from structures that enable violence and repression, to developing community infrastructure
  • Working with communities of color to create cultural offerings of connection and politicization through art, film, music, and convening
  • Strengthening individual, intergenerational and group resilience, agency, interdependence and healing through consistent wellness offerings for partners, communities, and leaders
  • Supporting organizations in service of violence intervention, housing, childhood development, immigrant-led solutions to healthcare access, reentry, and youth services.
