Betel is an Associate Program Manager, Policy & Communications, where she supports grants and advocacy.
Prior to joining HU, Betel was a communications and networking intern at Democracy Fund. Previously, she worked at Walker’s Legacy, a Washington, D.C.-based women’s organization dedicated to uplifting women of color in business through grantmaking and training opportunities. In her role as a communications and policy fellow, she assisted in bringing together congressional members to amplify policies related to opportunities for female entrepreneurs. She has also served as a communications intern for the Economic Innovation Group, one of the leaders for the “Opportunity Zones” bipartisan legislation in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.
Betel holds a bachelor’s degree in international studies and women’s studies from Old Dominion University and is currently enrolled in the graduate program of public policy at George Washington University. She is a fluent in Amharic.
