POSITION SUMMARY

Humanity United is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to manage the foundation’s accounting function and provide exceptional accounting support within the organization. This role will also work closely with and supervise an Operational Accountant. Primary responsibilities will include recording general ledger transactional activity while adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Humanity United accounting policies. Additional accounting related tasks will include overseeing the month-end close process, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, preparing financial-related reports and analytical schedules, assisting with annual audits and 990 tax returns, and periodic assignment of special projects by the Controller. The Senior Accountant will have a big picture understanding of accounting principles and processes and support the multi-entity organizational structure. Core Job Responsibilities:

Manage the foundation’s accounting processes, including:

  • Maintain and reconcile grant activities
  • Prepare all balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support the Controller with audit deliverables and tax return (990) supporting documentation
  • Assist the Controller with financial statement analysis
  • Research and implement improvements to new and existing accounting processes and operationalize new accounting standards alongside the Controller
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Manage the responsibilities of the Operational Accountant, including overseeing the end-to-end accounts payable process in Concur and Intact and maintaining Concur Expense report management and analysis
  • Ensure all system integrations are completed accurately and without errors
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Manage, coach and develop staff, including planning, assigning and reviewing work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Significant full-cycle general ledger accounting experience
  • Proficiency with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience implementing internal control processes and procedures
  • Demonstrated competency managing and mentoring accounting staff
  • Experience with Intacct or other cloud-based accounting systems, Concur, and Microsoft office, specifically advanced Excel skills, including V-lookups and Pivot tables.
  • Experience overseeing the monthly close
  • Experience working with external auditors and preparing audit deliverables
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate with and translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Accuracy and attention to detail a must
  • Must be strong at multi-tasking, prioritizing, and have demonstrated expertise in working independently on projects and bringing them to closure

Salary:

The salary range for this position will vary by location, to account for cost of living. The range begins at $123,897 for San Francisco-based candidates.
